How to Upload Screenshots to App Store Connect
Uploading screenshots to App Store Connect trips up plenty of developers. Here is the exact process, where localization fits in, and how to avoid the common rejections.
Once your screenshots are designed, the last step is getting them into App Store Connect correctly. The interface is straightforward, but a few details — especially around localization and sizes — catch people out. Here is the full process.
Step 1: Open your app version
In App Store Connect, go to My Apps, select your app, and open the version you are preparing under the iOS App section. Screenshots are managed per version, so make sure you are editing the version you intend to submit.
Step 2: Choose the device size
Screenshots are organized by display size. Upload your iPhone 6.9" set first — Apple uses it for the largest devices and can scale it down for smaller ones. If your app ships on iPad, upload the iPad Pro sizes too. See our complete size guide for exact dimensions.
Step 3: Select the language (localization)
This is the step most developers miss. At the top of the version page there is a language selector. Each language you have added to your App Store listing gets its own screenshot set.
This is where localized screenshots pay off
Switch the language selector to German, and upload your German screenshots. Switch to Japanese, upload the Japanese set. Users in each storefront see screenshots in their own language.

Step 4: Drag, drop, and order
Drag your screenshots into the upload area. The order matters — the first screenshot is the most important, since it shows largest in search results and on your product page. Arrange your strongest screenshot first.
Common rejection reasons
- Wrong resolution — the screenshot does not match the required native size for that device. Always export at native resolution.
- Placeholder or debug content — status bars showing debug info, lorem ipsum, or non-final UI.
- Mismatched language — uploading English screenshots under a non-English locale looks unfinished and can confuse review.
- Misleading content — screenshots showing features the app does not actually have.
Save and submit
Once every language and device size is filled in, save your changes and continue with the rest of your submission. Double-check by switching through each language in the selector to confirm nothing is missing.
